Ted Allan Thompson died at his home on May 9, 2015.
He was born to Allan and Lorene Thompson, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on September 10, 1952, the third of four children.
He graduated from Shelley High School in 1971. He attended Utah Technical School in Provo where he studied auto mechanics. He returned to Shelley in 1972 to assist his father with the family sheep business. Ted had been learning the business from a young age and was his father's invaluable assistant.
On August 17, 1972 he married Shirley Anne Hanson, of Shelley, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together the couple raised four children and worked together to continue and grow the family business.
In 1985 the sheep were replaced with cattle. Ted was an able cattle rancher and raised alfalfa and dry farmed wheat for many years, but he never lost his interest in mechanics and was an avid automobile enthusiast; he especially liked racecars and drag racing. He was a long time member of the National Hot Rod Association.
His own life was not lived in the fast lane however. He was a steady force in the lives of his wife and children. He worked throughout his life to build the business begun by his grandfather, George Thompson. Ted worked side-by-side with his own father until Allan's death in 1991. His two sons, Matt and Rick, gladly joined him in the business.
He served on the Bingham County Soil Conservation Board, was active in Farm Bureau, and served as a president of the Bonneville County Cattleman's Association, which honored him as Cattleman of the Year in 2014. Ted enjoyed camping and travelling with his family and had visited numerous places, he especially enjoyed the time he spent in Maui.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon, all of Jameston.
Ted is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Matthew (Jayme) Thompson, Rick (Callie) Thompson of Goshen, and Carey (Ken) Peeples, Lauren (Eli) Krutko, of Idaho Falls; and eight grandchildren, Jackson, Mattson, Olivia, Makenna, George, Kaitlyn, Dawson, McCarty and a baby girl on the way.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Goshen Ward Chapel (792 N 1090 E). The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Thursday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Â Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
