LTC Jesse Coleman, US Army Ret., 84, of Beverly Hills, FL, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 in Lecanto, FL. He is survived by Dora Coleman, his loving wife of 54 years; two children – Craig Coleman of Seattle, WA and Angela Coleman of Laurel, MD; one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jesse was born on January 21, 1931 in Hayti, MO to Alberta and Johnny Coleman. He was the fourth of five children and grew up in Charleston, MO. He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture in 1954.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1955 in the Quartermaster Corps. He served one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. During his years of service, he was awarded numerous decorations including two Army Commendation Medals, The Legion of Merit and two Bronze Star Medals. He retired after twenty years of service in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel, after which he worked as a Civil Servant for an additional 15 years. He retired in Newport News, VA in 1995 and in the year 2000, moved to Crystal River, FL.

Jesse was a Mason and a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He was also a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

He is sadly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2105 N Georgia Road, Crystal River, FL 34429. Services will begin at 11:30 AM with Reverend Ronald A. Sutton officiating.
