Delmar W. Husen, 82, Calamus, died early Tuesday morning, October 26, 2010 at Wheatland Manor.

Delmar Walter Husen was born May 8, 1928 on his grandparents farm near Buena Vista in Olive Township south of Calamus, to Walter and Viola (Steinbeck) Husen. He attended Buena Vista School Kindergarden through 8th grade and graduated Calamus High School in 1945. Delmar grew up near the Wapsi River where he acquired his love for nature and farming.

He married Marcella Staggs April 14, 1951. Later that year he went to serve in the U.S. Army in Korea for two years. Upon discharge from the Army in 1953, he and Marcella started farming near Plainview They later moved to a farm north of Calamus, where they lived for 50 years. When Delmar's health started to decline, they moved to Calamus in 2006.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus, a longtime member of Magnus M. Petersen American Legion Post #466 of Calamus of which he was comander for several years, the Calamus Co-op of which he served as president and board member and the CALCO Board. Delmar enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He traveled a lot and enjoyed his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Marcella; daughters, Linda (Barry) Kaplan, Garwin, Sandra (Curtis) Faith, Davenport, Denise (Timothy) Winter, Cedar Rapids; sisters, Helen (Eldon) Hansen, Riverdale, and Roma (Gerald) Grell, Davenport; a brother, Roy (Shirley) Husen, Dixon; grandchildren, Scott (Randi) Jones, Nicole, Ethan (Melinda), Peri Kaplan and Paige Bruce, Jessica (Matt) Meyer and Joshua Faith, Dustin, Josie and Gabriel Winter; great-grandchildren, Preston, Brooklyn, Tatum and Piper Jones, Maggie Kaplan and Sam Bruce.

In death, Delmar joins his parents and sister, Marletta Betts.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 4:00 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 in Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. The Rev. Sarah E. Kretzmann will officiate with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus. Memorials are suggested to Camp Courageous.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Scott Jones, Nicole Kaplan, Dustin Winter, Gabe Winter, Josie Winter, Jessica Faith Meyer and Joshua Faith.
