- Virden, Ill., July 1.--William E Everts,
father of J. W. Everts, cashier of the
State Bank of Virden, was struck by an
interurban car while crossing the tracks
at the Illinois Traction system station
about 9 o'clock this morning, receiving
injuries from which he died at his home
at 11:50 o'clock.
- Mr. Everts who is 87 years old and
slightly hard of hearing did not notice
that the express crew of the interurban
were switching some cars of freight and
stepped directly before the cars. The
conductor called to him to look out but
was unable to attract his atention, the
car dragging him several feet before the
cars could be stopped.
- Eldon W. Everts was born in Addison
county, Vermont, November 9, 1826. In
1839 he removed with his parents to
Greene county, Illinois, where he resided
until 1852, when he moved to Bois D'Arc
township. In 1880 he removed from his
farm to Virden, where he has since re-
sided.
- In 1867 he was united in marriage to
Miss Cornelia A. Hawkins. Three chil-
dren were born to them who survive
him, Mrs. Charles Gish, Joseph Everts
and Miss Ema Everts, with five grand-
children surviving. The funeral will be
held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock
from his late home, the Rev. Mr.
Reynolds officiating.
