"Special Pension Examiner Minor was in town Tuesday looking after the claim of Jonas Beardsley of the Center. Beardsley was in seventeen general battles. He was wounded in the leg at the battle of Deserted House, and at the battle of Franklin was thrown from a horse, striking on a pile of railroad iron. This permanently injured him. Both battle fields are in Virginia and near the farm owned by James Fowler. A number of years ago when Beardsley lived at Dansville , he made application for a pension in which he stated that he had not been confined in a hospital while in the service. Since living here he said the evidence in his claim, the witnesses affirming that he had been wounded, but that he had also been in a hospital near Suffolk, Va. The hospital was an old barn with part of the boards knocked off. Beardsley did not know that the barn was dignified by the name of hospital, and this made an error in his application, which caused a delay in acting on his claim, and made the examination by a special agent necessary. This shows that applicants for a pension cannot be too exact in their application."
