John was the son of Matthias Mount Sr. (the identity of his mother is uncertain). He married first to Hannah Freeman in Dec. 1764. He is reported to be the same who served as a lieutenant (apparently in the militia) during the Revolutionary War. He married second to Ann Toms on 10 June 1792.
