Lewis Buck was born November 16, 1894 in Almy, Wyoming to William F and Emily Matilda Copeland Buck. His parents were converts to the LDS Church and came to the United States from England. His father worked in the coal mines in Almy and Kemmerer, Wyoming coming to Woodruff about 1900. Lewis has lived in Woodruff since that time.

Lewis worked on his father's ranch and later on various ranches in this area. He attended school in Woodruff and took advantage of all the education that was available at that time. He was a very good athlete in basketball and track but excelled in baseball. He was pitcher on Woodruff's teams for many years.

He worked at the Brick Ranch south of Woodruff for 17 years. It was owned by C.A. Johnson. While he was employed there he also bought property of his own and went into the cattle business for himself.

He married Thelma Cornia in 1914 in Woodruff, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
