Death of Mrs. Newton Holmes
Mrs. Phebe A. Holmes, whose maiden name was Lewis, was born near Sugar Tree Ridge, Highland County, Ohio, on the 29th of June, 1828, so that at the time of her death she was in her 63rd year.
She was married to Newton Holmes, October 31st, 1846.
She united with the Christian Church in 1855, of which church she was a consistent, faithful member until death.
Her parents both died when she was about nine years old, and to her younger brother and sister, she has in so far as it was possible filled a mother's place.
As wife, mother, sister or friend she has always been of a kind, cheerful disposition,ever ready to lend a helping hand where needed. Her example is one we may well follow.
She was the mother of Lewis Holmes of this city, Chas. N. Holmes of Chicago, and Mrs. Carrie Parker.
Her death occurred Wednesday, December 3rd, 1890.
