Myrle was born into a large family and was the tenth child born to parents Garrett and Carrie Ackerson. Myrle started working for the Union Pacific Railroad after graduating from high school. Then joined the Navy on 14 December 1942. Myrle became a CB in the 100th U.S. Naval Construction Battalion. Sent first to Camp Allen for boot training, where military discipline and the use of light arms was taught. Myrle was then sent to Camp Perry for construction training. It was more like OJT 9On the Job Training0 because their first construction was building of the Training Center itself. Camp Perry is just on the outskirts of Williamsburg, Virgina. The 100th Construction Battalion also known as the Century Battalion moved to Gulfport, Mississippi, Port Hueneme, California, Pearl Habor, Hawaii, then on to the Marshall Island at Majuro Atoll. In March of 1945 the Battalion was sent to the Philippines at Guiuan on Samar Island. Myrle wasn't released from the Navy until 3 April 1946.
In Fort Collins, Colorado Myrle and Kay were married on August 3,1946 and were together until his death in 1999. They lived and raised 2 children in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Myrle was cremated with no burial site.
