James Earl Stuart, 93, died May 17, 1990 in Evanston, Wyoming.

Born January 24, 1897 in Woodruff, Utah to James Richard and Minnie Amelia (Cox) Stuart. Married Vanice Lucille Moss February 14, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Earl attended school in Woodruff and then Morgan High School graduating in 1917. During WW I, he enlisted in the Army and after fulfilling his obligation to his country, he served a mission in Scotland for 26 months. His callings in the church have been many and varied; Stake Sunday School Superintendency; Woodruff Bishopric for eight years; and the Woodruff Stake High Council for 26 years. He operated a custom threshing machine from Evanston, Wyoming to Geneva, Idaho for 35 years. He earned his livelihood as a sheep rancher for 64 years. Earl was a charter member of the Rich county Wool Pool serving as president for many years. His county jobs included county commissioner, 6 years and county assessor, 8 years. In 1957 he was elected from Rich County to serve in the Utah Legislature as a state representative, he served in this capacity for three terms. He received his 50 year pin from the American Legion Post #52 in Rich County where he served as Chaplain and Commander for a number of years. In 1973, Earl was chosen as the Most Outstanding Senior Citizen in the county.Survived by wife, Randolph; daughters, Annie Amelia Hamberger, Ketchikan, Alaska; Kathleen Thompson, Bonita, Calif.; Betty May Weston, Randolph; sons, Nathan J. Stuart; Gordon Earl Stuart, both Kaysville; Paul James Stuart, Fruit Heights; 33 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl G. Stuart; F. Richard Stuart, both Ogden; A. Lamar Stuart, West Point; Lewis M. Stuart, Woodruff; Glen W. Stuart, Layton; sisters, May Hopkin; Annie Wamsley, both Woodruff; and stepmother, Maude Stuart, of Logan.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 21, 1 p.m., Randolph Ward Chapel, with Bishop Perry Norris officiating. Friends may call at the Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston, Sunday, 6-8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services. Burial, Woodruff Cemetery.
