D.E.O. Thomas
D.E.O. Thomas, son of William and Rhoda Thomas born in Gasconade county, Herman, Missouri,
September 15, 1862. He passed away at his home in Preston, Missouri, June 27th 1947 at age of 84 years, 9 months and 12 days.
Mr.Thomas was converted and joined the church in 1892 and in later years moved his memebership to the Methodist Protestant Church in Preston, Missouri.
His father died when he was 7 years of age. He was the youngest of a family of eleven children. Mr Thomas with his mother, 1 brother and 1 sister moved to Hickory county in 1882. He was united in marriage to Rosa Ann Wiseman on December 11, 1887 and to this union 5 children were born, all of whom, together with his wife survive to mourn his passing. They are Bennie, of Marysville, Washington; Mrs. Pearl Bybee, Preston, Missouri; Mrs. Bertie McCain, Rupert, Idaho; Mrs Ruth green, Collins Missouri; and Mrs Ruby Howard, Gridley, California. He is survived by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren also. His father, mother, brothers, and sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Thomas was a man of plain honest living, who was always willing to do any amount of hard work for the welfare of his family. When friends and neighbors needed help he was ready and willing to aid them. He served two terms as county judge in Hickory county and was always ready to lend an ear to those in need of assistance and many were his deeds of kindness. In later years and during his illness he bore his suffering with little complaint and he will be sadly missed by friends and family.
Funeral Services were held Monday, June 30, at the Preston Methodist Church with Rev. J.L. Wright officiating. Burial was in little Niangua Cemetery under the direction of Hathaway Funeral Home.
