Jason Parker was the only child of John Dehnel and Sharlynda (Teague) Dehnel. His maternal grandparents were Tom Teague and Jewel (Parker) Teague. He was raised mostly by his grandparents, and spent most of his youth in the San Angelo, Texas area, although he did live in the towns of Kermit and Junction for a time in his teens.

He attended Angelo State from 1997 to 2004, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Math and Computer Science. In 2006, he began grad school for math at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and got his Masters in 2009. He also taught classes at TTU from 2007 through 2010.

In the summer of 2010, Jason moved to Indiana where he attended Purdue University, and it is believed that he got yet another Master's degree in 2013.

A former girlfriend stated that he was "brilliant, kind and considerate, and that he loved math (obviously) and gourmet food/cooking." He also loved his cat, Nipper, who was 17 at the time of Jason's passing.

At the time of his death, Jason was a math instructor at the University of Arkansas. He was just 36 years old.
