Doten – Jean Bryant Devereaux died of heart failure on Nov. 23, 2000, in Dania Beach, Fla. Born in Rutherford, N.J. in 1923, the daughter of Captain Charles Bryant Devereaux and Reed Devereaux. Eugenia Jean spent most of her youth in Stockton Springs with her parents; her sister, Ruth Devereaux Seekins; and brother, Captain Charles Reed. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1945, and married Scott Edward Doten (Harvard '45). They lived in Harrington for several years and taught school in Milbridge. They moved first to New Jersey and then to Ohio, but returned to Milbridge in 1984. Scott passed away in 1991, and Jean moved to Florida in 1997. Jean is survived by five of her six children; Scott Timothy Doten of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charles Devereaux Doten of Miramar, Fla., Jean Ebbs Graham of Palo Alto, Calif., David Albert Doten of Tel Aviv, Israel and Christopher Edward Doten of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was predeceased in 1960, by her son, Thomas Francis Doten. Her children lovingly remember her passion for music, justice, nature and above all God, and are eternally grateful for the strong values she taught and practiced. A memorial service will be held 10am Saturday, Dec. 2, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherryfield. The burial will follow at 1:30pm at Mount Prospect Cemetery in Stockton Springs.
