J.O. Eves was the youngest child of Joshua Ozy Eves and Mattie Susanna Athey. his father died not long after his birth in Van Zandt County, and is buried in Henderson County. J.O. enlisted in the Army in February of 1941 and was stationed in Java. After the war began he was captured and spent 42 months as a POW in Burma. When liberated he weighed 70 pounds. He eventually married Martha Jean Byars and they had three children. J.O. went on to work for the Waxahachie Fire Department. Martha stated J.O. suffered nightmares the rest of his life due to his years as a POW to the Japanese.
