Thomas P. Van Daele of Valparaiso, Fla., passed away Friday, Feb. 6. He is survived by his wife, Mae, of 60 years and daughters Cathy Hilliard and her husband Mark of Baker and Christine Anderson and her husband Brian of Crestview.
Thomas was born Nov. 30, 1932, and grew up in Paterson, N.J. He resided in Valparaiso for over 40 years after being introduced to the area while serving a 20-year career in the Air Force as a nuclear weapons specialist, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He also worked at the U.S. Army Ranger Camp on Eglin AFB for over 16 years, where he became the Motor Pool Manager. Thomas often distinguished himself and was the recipient of many awards and expressions of appreciation.
Thomas was a family man who enjoyed his home, repairing, tinkering, and making items, repairing family autos, woodworking, and fishing. He was a gentle man who was considerate of people and offered assistance to many. He was a member of NCOA and DAV Chapter 112.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Valparaiso Boulevard, Niceville.
