"Sandra Williams French, RN, of Honesdale, died on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Honesdale on May 1, 1945, she is the daughter of Jean Spinner Williams of Cherry Ridge and the late David T. Williams, Sr.

Sandy always had an insatiable appetite for knowledge and a desire to help others.

She attended Marywood Seminary and graduated from Honesdale Catholic (HoCaHi).

She went on to attend St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Utica, New York.

She interned in New York City before becoming Head of Community Health for the State of Vermont as well as a Professor of Nursing at Goddard College.

Her career then led her to Hearne, Texas where she worked as an emergency room nurse. She returned to Honesdale where she spent 38 years working in a variety of capacities at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Her first love was as an OR nurse.

Sandy was loved and respected by those she worked with.

No matter how many times she attempted to retire from Wayne Memorial Hospital, they continued to give her shifts.

She continued taking them up until 6 weeks ago.

Many people in the community have stated that Sandy was the best OR nurse the hospital has ever had.

She enjoyed traveling, movies and talking with anyone anywhere.

She was a truly giving person who took care of anyone in need from the variety of animals on her property, to the friends her son or brothers brought home, and in recent years showed a total devotion to taking care of her mother.

Giving of herself and helping others wasn't a profession to Sandy, it was who she was.

In addition to her mother, Sandy is survived by her brother David T. Williams and wife Melba; John Propeack; nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews, her Wayne Memorial Hospital family, and a large circle of friends who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her son Jason French and her brother Frank Williams.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Terrace St. Honesdale on Friday, May 8th at 10 am.

Friends may pay their respects prior to the Mass starting at 9 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Honesdale.

Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Sandy loved flowers but was extremely allergic to them.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wayne Memorial Hospital, 601 Park St. Honesdale, PA 18431 or the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr. Honesdale, PA 18431."
