George E. Cullen-90-Rockford, died at 3:42 A.M. Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport, IL. Born November 8, 1919, in Rockford, son of George P. and Opal C. Horr Cullen. Married to Ellen H. Cullen who died in 1974 and then married Doris I Ray on September 3,1988, who survives him. George graduated from Rockford Central High in 1937. He was a production supervisor at National Lock Co. for many years. He served in the US Army in Europe in a tank division under General Patton during WWII. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served in the St. James Parish in his youth. Survivors include his wife, Doris, his sons, G. Steven (Pam) Cullen of Black River Falls, Wis. and Michael Cullen of Rockford and his sister, Mary Lou (Albert) Peila of Rockford. Grandchildren, Bradley (Ann) Cullen, Gregory (Shelly) Cullen and Amy (Adam) Taylor. Six Great Grandchildren. Step children, Gary (Nancy) Ray and Carol (Arthur) Hilstad and 1 step grandson, Kevin Ray. Sister-in-law, Ruth Cullen and Brother-in-law, John Duncan and several nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by his parents, his first wife Ellen, his sister, Catherine Duncan and brother Benjamin Cullen. Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 23, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4407 Highcrest Rd. in Rockford. Visitation from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home and from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Monday at the church. Prayer service at 7:15 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be given in care of the family for benefit of the American Cancer Society
