Born the only child of Clyde and Ida (Gwinn) Morgan on July 6, 1923, in Wichita Falls at the home of her maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A.E. Gwinn. GG, as she preferred to be called, spent her early childhood years on her parents’ dairy farm west of Wichita Falls. She attended public school in Wichita Falls and graduated from “Old High” in May 1939. After high school, she attended Draughon’s School of Business and went to work in the office of Paulk’s Busy Corner, the local Goodyear dealership, from 1940-41. She was then employed at the Traffic Dept. of the Old Fort Worth & Denver Railroad for 15 years.

She and John F. Nitschke, the love of her life, were married August 14, 1943. Gwen was John’s devoted partner both in life and at the Circle N Ranch in Waurika, Oklahoma.

Upon John’s retirement, John and Gwen split their time between Wichita Falls and the Circle N. GG often spoke of those days with John and the Oklahoma sunsets as the happiest time of her life. John died on May 26, 2003. GG was a selfless Christian who was most at home serving others. She and John were members of the Merle Anthony Bible Class and Floral Heights United Methodist Church, where GG’s service included baking cookies for children in the after-school program and helping with the church newsletter. GG loved to garden, cook and watch a beautiful sunset. Her main passions in life were the Lord and her “Cowboy John,” with whom she rode off into the sunset on September 4, 2014.
