Mary Margaret Gauthier was the first child born to Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Gauthier in Dubuque county, Ia. January 28, 1875. When a mere child she moved with her parents to Taylor county, later to Mercer Center vicinity, and some years later to Corning, which has been her home through the years.

During her early residence in Corning, she was employed in the drug store of the late Dr. Potter, and many years later in the Riggar Co. basement department.

She was united in marriage to Dan Mack September 29, 1908, in St. Patrick's church in Corning. To this union four children were born, twin sons; Francis and Raymond passing away in infancy, Edwin of Des Moines and Byron of Corning.

Her husband passed away in January, 1924. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, the late A. L. Gauthier.

She is survived by her two sons, Edwin and Byron, one sister, Miss Alice Gauthier of Corning, one brother, Ed Gauthier of Corning, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edwin Mack, of Des Moines, and three, grandchildren, Richard, Carolyn and Barbara, a large number of relatives and a host of friends who will miss her love and interest. She was a home-loving person, but always glad to greet her visitors.

She had been in failing health for some time, and was in the hospital during the last ten weeks of her life. Death was due to a heart condition.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Patrick's church, where she had been such a faithful member all of her life. The requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. M. J. Powers at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Dec. 6.

In her more active years, she participated in all church functions, was a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters of America and always ready to help her neighbors and friends. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Pall bearers were her nephews, Paul, Robert, Philip, Raymond and Gerald Gauthier, and a great nephew, Raphael Mack.

Interment was in the family plot in Calvary cemetery, beside her husband and sons.

Relatives who attended services from out of town, were Mr. and Mrs. E. F. McEntry and daughter of Creston, and Mrs. Neil Mack of Viola, Ill., and Mrs. Mike Mack from Rock Island.
