Mr. Charlie Coy Barnes Sr., 83, "Uncle Coy", 83, of Advance, passed away May 4,2015, at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. Coy was born to Jim Barnes and Mattie Minor Barnes May 27, 1931, in Davie County. He was the youngest of ten children: Howard, Annie, Calvin, Alma, Green, Homer, Tom, Jay, and Betty. He was the last living child of Jim and Mattie. Coy married the love of his life, Velna Nan Wilson, February 14, 1953, made their home in Advance where they raised five children. He served three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and Honorably Discharged as Sergeant. The remaining years of his life were devoted to his family and farming. Coy enjoyed hunting with his grandsons, Chance and Ethan, and month-long fishing trips with family, friends, and the "Fishing Buddies" at Kure Pier. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, FSA, and Pork Producers Board. Coy was a lifelong member of Bailey's Chapel United Methodist Church. He served as Lay Leader, and Sunday school teacher. Coy is survived by his wife, Nan of the home; children, Charlie Coy Barnes, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Cloverdale, CA, Donna Kaye Barnes Boger (Lynn), Tim Barnes, Brent (Linda) Barnes, and Todd (Andra) Barnes, all of Advance; grandchildren, Chance (Lauren) Barnes, Meggan Barnes (Peter Tran), Lindley Bess, Ethan Barnes, and Hunter Kate Barnes; many nieces, nephews, special friends, and "Fishing Buddies". His family will receive visitation at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville, Wednesday, May 6, 2015, from 6 -8 p.m. Service will be held May 7, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Bailey's Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Charles Turner. Interment will follow in the Bailey's Chapel UMC Cemetery.
