Higgins, Harold Anthony 88 April 21, 1927 April 29, 2015 Harold Anthony Higgins, 88, was born in Hartington, Neb. Harold was the second of five children. His father, Loren J. Higgins, and mother, Clover "Kitty" Domina Higgins raised Harold and his siblings, Glenn, Louis, Arlene and Marilyn, in Omaha, Neb. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 16 during WWII. While stationed in the South Pacific he met his beloved wife, Betty (Yeh Ming) Higgins, in Shanghai, China. After courtship and marriage, Harold and Betty returned to Omaha in 1949 to raise their children, Sharon, Patrick, Kathryn and Joseph. Har- old and Betty were married for 54 years until Betty's passing Oct. 11, 2000. While working for the Omaha Metropolitan Utilities District, he got his associate business degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He practiced as an independent insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group until retiring at age 70. Harold and Betty were avid square dancers and could be found doing the "Do Si Do" with the Belles and Beaux as their children were in grade school. Harold was a loving family man who was always helping family and friends. He had a warm Irish sense of humor, quick with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. His children and grandchildren were often engaged by his teasing and tickles. He had a way of teaching that made it fun whether it was bike riding, ice skating, swimming or changing the oil in the car. The family loved camping and water skiing. While a fisherman, much of his time was spent baiting hooks or removing the catch for his wife and children. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon M . Higgins; son, Patrick A. Higgins; daughter, Kathryn J. Albert (Thomas Albert); grandchildren, Hannah Albert and Kali Albert; son, Joseph A. Higgins (Susan Bahle Higgins); grandchildren, Tony Higgins, Casey Higgins Seeger, Benjamin Higgins and Nicholas Higgins; great-grandson, Ethan Higgins, son of Tony Higgins; and sister, Marilyn Higgins Merica. Harold passed away in Damascus in the company of his family. As Harold and Betty requested, their family will celebrate their love and spread their ashes near their Maui home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warrior Project in Harold's name, 1-855-448-3997, woundedwarriorproject.org.
