Joseph was born in Newark and was raised in Lyndhurst where he graduated from Lyndhurst High
School in 1966. He enlisted in the US Marines 28 June 1966 after graduating from high school, at a Newark Recruiting Office.
He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment,
3rd Marine Division. India Company was participating in Operation Prairie III and were in a night defensive position when they had hostile incoming mortar fire. Joseph died as a of fragmentation wounds to the back of the head and back.
Tour of duty unknown.
Survived by his parents, Joseph and Helen DeJessa, his brother, Stephen and his 2 sisters,
Mary Ellen and Barbara DeJessa of 200 Copeland Avenue, Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
