He was the son of J Newton Chandler and Mary Elizabeth Hearn. He married Leila Winslett on October 15, 1884 in Lee County. They were the parents of 14 known children. He is my great, great grandfather. Burial information for he and his wife obtained from death records. Their burials remain unmarked. Funeral services for Joseph Newton Chandler, well known Lee County farmer for more than forty years, who died at his home in Wallace Chapel community Wednesday afternoon, were held Thursday afternoon at Union Grove church. Interment in Union Grove cemetery.
Deceased was born in Lee County and had resided in the county all his life. He was in his sixty-fourth year at the time of his death. In 1888 he was married to Miss Leila Winslet.
Mr. Chandler was a member of the Methodist church, and is survived by his widow, five sons, John, Brady, Jesse, Roy and Sam Chandler, and eight daughters, Mrs. H H Whitman, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Shelton Ford, Mrs. Paul Martin, Mrs. E W McClendon and Mrs. A C Gray and Misses Ida and Ellen Chandler. Also two brothers survive, J M Chandler of Opelika and C D Chandler, of Walnut Grove, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. M S Ehney, of Macon, GA and Mrs. Mary Nobles of Chattanooga.
