James Edward DeMoss, 88, of Lake Ozark, formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City.Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.Born March 8, 1916, in Marshall, he was the son of the late James Earp DeMoss and Martha Mounts DeMoss. On April 26, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan., he married Phyllis Dickson, who preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1993. He had lived in Marshall until 1978, New Franklin from 1979 to 1984, Columbia from 1985 to 1997 and had lived at the Lake of the Ozarks since 1998. He was a foreman at International Shoe Company in Marshall, retiring in 1978 after 45 years of service. While living in New Franklin, he was a school bus driver, and in Columbia he was a taxi driver for Tiger Taxi. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and served as a merchant Marine during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marshall.Survivors include two sons, Brent DeMoss of Lake Ozark and Terry DeMoss of Ozark; one daughter, Sherry DeMoss of New York, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Yvonne Leigh DeMoss; and one infant brother, Grover Bennett DeMoss.
