Calvin Henne Long, PhD, age 88, of Black Mountain died peacefully on April 28, 2015. He was born February 16, 1927 in W. Myerstown, Pennsylvania and lived in California, Oklahoma City and Sarasota, Florida. He served with the Army Air Force as a cryptographer in the WWII Occupation until the end of 1946. He married Doris Jeanne Bomgardner in 1954 while employed as an Analytical Chemist with Armstrong Cork Company in Lancaster, PA.

He received degrees in Chemistry from the University of Miami (BS), Franklin & Marshall College (MS) and a Doctorate from Stanford University in 1964. Prior to retirement in 1984, Dr. Long was Manager of Technical and Administrative Services in Oklahoma City at the Kerr McGee Technical Center. He enjoyed Duplicate Bridge, computers, genealogy, traveling and arts & crafts.

Survivors include his partner of 25 years, Linda Briggs; a daughter, Hilarie Benedetto, her husband David & two grandsons Brad & John of Grapevine, Texas; a son, James Long, his wife Michelle & one grandson Henry of Yorkville, Illinois; and numerous friends and extended family.

A private burial service was held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
