Jeannette "Pat" Collins, age 100, of Marshall, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Oak Haven in Marshall.
Pat was born on September 22, 1914 in Huntington, Indiana to Pete H. and Faye (Hollette) Rowan. She moved to Marshall with her family in 1929, where she attended Marshall High School. She was a member of the MHS Graduating Class of 1931. Her class was the first Marshall High School to adopt Redskins as their team logo and name.
She was married to Milo I. "Mike" Collins Sr. . Mike preceded her in death after 62 years of marriage.
Pat worked as the Marshall correspondent for the Battle Creek Enquirer in the 1940's and early 1950's. She wrote her column "Religiously Speaking" for the Marshall Chronicle for 15 years. She had also worked for the Albion Recorder.
She was a longtime member of the former Marshall Monday Club. She belonged for the First Baptist Church for more than 80 years. She served her Lord in many capacities there, including Sunday School Teacher, Church Librarian and Historian. Pat was the chair of the committee that was responsible for having the First Baptist Church building at the corner of Grand and Michigan declared a Historic Landmark site. She also attended the Ceresco Baptist Church and the North Avenue Church of God. She served as a member of the Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary for many years, and was a committee member that created the Chapel in the hospital.
Pat loved her pet cats. She collected dolls and crocheted doll clothing. She swam regularly for exercise. She liked watching racing and Spartan basketball. Pat enjoyed reading and collecting books.
She is survived by her four children, Milo I. Collins Jr. , Douglas R. (Betty) Collins, Barbara (William) Grant-Haroff and Jean Gordon; 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death also by her granddaughter Karen Collins Myers, her grandsons Gerald Collins and Larry Sommers, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Mary Rowan, son-in-laws James Grant and Fred Gordon, and daughter-in-law Kathleen Collins.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at the Kempf Funeral Home Marshall Chapel on Tuesday at 11AM with Rev. David C. Good of First Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. A meal will follow the committal, at First Baptist Church at the corner of Grand and Michigan.
