REDGRANITE - Searchers have found the body of an Appleton teenager who
drowned in a water-filled quarry.

A diver recovered the body of Edward Yancy, 16, at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
Waushara County Sheriff Patrick Fox.

Yancy's body was found in 85 feet of water by a diver about 75 yards from
where he went under at about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities and witnesses said the teenager had been swimming in the quarry,
which ranges from 40 to 100 feet
deep, with a group of four other young people when he disappeared.

Fox said divers were hindered by the quarry's jagged bottom, poor visibility
and cold water temperatures.

Eight people have drowned in the popular swimming spot in the past 15 years.
The last came in 1998, when a 21-year old Slinger man drowned as he tried
to swim across it.
