GILBERT, Jerome M. "Jerry" 92, son of Samuel and Stella Gilbert, passed away May 2, 2015. Jerry was born Dec. 20, 1922 in St. Petersburg and attended St. Petersburg High School as well as the University of Florida. He served overseas in the Coast Guard during WWII. Following his service, Jerry married his childhood sweetheart, Thelma Diamond, in 1946. That same year, they opened Gilbert Jewelers of Downtown St. Petersburg, which remained open for over 65 years. Jerry was one of the founding members and past president of Congregation B'nai Israel in St. Petersburg. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Thelma; sons, Mark (Janet Arnold) and Scott; as well as his granddaughters, Candace and Kimberly (daughters of Jerry's late son, Ronald). Services will be held at 1 pm today, Monday, May 4 at Congregation B'nai Israel, 300 58th St. N, St. Petersburg. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Largo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jerry's memory to PARC.
