WHITSETT TEENAGER KILLED IN HIGH-SPEED CAR CRASH

A 15-year-old Whitsett girl was killed and another girl was injured in a high-speed crash Tuesday night on the Old Julian Road.

Karen Summer Crowson, of 2023 Mt. Hope Church Road, Whitsett, was riding in the back seat of a car driven by Ronnie Bradley Casey, 16, about 7 p.m. The car was traveling about 70-75 miles per hour in an area posted for 55 mph, according to Trooper A.R. Carter. The car ran off the right, outer side of a curve, came back onto the road and slid off the left side into two trees, Carter said. Crowson was thrown out the back window and landed about 50 feet away. She was the only person in the car not wearing a seat belt.

Amanda Trollinger, 9, of 7023 Bobby Jean Road, Julian, was being treated for a broken ankle, scrapes, bruises and other possible minor injuries, Carter said. Casey, who has the same address, had minor scrapes and bruises. He was charged with careless and reckless driving and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
