Moses Twombly was born January 23, 1793 in Berwick, Maine (we say that, although Maine separated itself from Massachusetts and became the 23rd state on March 15, 1820, so Moses was actually born in Massachusetts) to Ephraim Twombly (b. ca 1768) and Joanna WENTWORTH Twombly (b. Nov 10, 1770).
Moses Twombly married Phebe J Fogg (b. May 11, 1798) in Berwick on March 20, 1817 and the couple had ten children, all of whom were born in Berwick. The children included: Sally (Sarah) (b. Dec 25, 1817), Joanna (b. Jun 2, 1820), Julia H (b. Oct 1, 1822), John F (Dec 29, 1826), Albion K (b. Nov 3, 1828), Horatio Nelson (b. Jan 25, 1831), Phebe Jane (Mar 26, 1833), Joseph F (b. Aug 7, 1835), James Madison Benton (b. Dec 8, 1837), and Howard Moses (b. Aug 9, 1840).
Moses died Apr 26, 1841 at age 48, leaving his wife Phebe with several children to support, the youngest of which was Howard Moses, age eight months old. Phebe passed Oct 6, 1856 in Harlem, NY. Phebe is buried next to Moses, both of whom are buried in the Twombly Fogg Cemetery 32.
In the 1990s, the Philbricks found the Moses Twombly gravestone broken and buried.
