Alvin Monroe Greenlee, 84, passed away Friday morning, March 20, 2015, at Reflections on the Three Links Campus in Northfield.

Alvin Monroe Greenlee was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Osage, Iowa, to Elmer and Gertrude (Allas) Greenlee. He was raised on the family farm near Elkton, Minnesota, attended country school, Austin High School, and graduated from Elkton in 1948. On April 11, 1950, Al was inducted into the US Army. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict and following his honorable discharge on April 11, 1953, he returned to Austin. On May 29, 1954, Al married Marlys R. Hanson at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. After marriage they made their home in Austin where they became members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and Al worked as manager of Austin Cashway Lumber. In 1982, Al and Marlys moved to Northfield and purchased the College City Motel. They operated the motel together until retiring in the summer of 1996. Marlys passed away on Jan. 8, 1997. In retirement Al spent most of his time volunteering and enjoying his interests.

Al was a lifetime member of the Northfield VFW serving as Post Commander, secretary for the Veterans Memorial Park Board, and served on the Honor Guard. He was a member of both Austin and Northfield Lions Club, Northfield American Legion and Cribbage Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and playing Cribbage with his friends and family. Al will be remembered most for his compassion and generosity. He loved people and made friends everywhere he went, giving selflessly of himself and expecting nothing in return. He was very blessed.

Survivors include his son Terry (Heidi) of Orlando, Florida; his daughter Wendy (Ben) Conner of Odon, Indiana; his son-in-law Tony Kvam; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; his brother Ken (Winnie) of Austin; his sister Judy (Charles) Joel of Austin; nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his son Blake; his daughter Susan Kvam; his parents; and his brother Chuck.

Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
