Major League Baseball Player. He played in fifteen seasons with the New York Yankees, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. Gifted with great speed he led the American League in stolen bases from 1931 to 1933 and 1937. He was named to the American League All Star Team four times in his career. He had 1958 career hits with a lifetime batting average of .302. He also was a player-manager with the Phillies from 1945 to 1946.
