Carl Lee Carpenter, Jr., 90, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 4, at University Park UMC, with burial following at 3 p.m. in Waco Memorial Park in Waco.

Carl was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Carl Lee Carpenter, Sr. and Jessie Ann Riley Carpenter. A French horn player in the Waco High School Tiger Band, Carl graduated from Waco High School in 1942 and was awarded a scholarship in the Southern Methodist University Mustang Band.

In July 1943, Carl enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. He then graduated from SMU with a BBA in 1949 and joined National City Bank of Dallas. Returning to active duty in 1951 as an Ensign in the U.S.Navy, Carl served on the USS Alstede in the Korean theater and obtained the rank of Ltjg. Carl continued in the United States Navy Reserve until 1957 when he was honorably discharged.

In 1954, Carl began his career with Community Bank & Trust in Waco, retiring as the Executive Vice President in 1990. He continued to serve on the CBT-Waco board of directors until his death.

At Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, Carl met Jane Robertson and they were married there on July 14, 1957. They established their home in Waco where they raised their son, Carl Louis Carpenter. Carl was a loving husband and father who defined what it meant to be a gentleman.

He served in numerous lay positions at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, including administrative board chairman and lay member to the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. After the death of his wife, Carl moved to Dallas in 1997. He became an active member of University Park UMC and served on the board of trustees. Carl enjoyed attending SMU events and was a member of the SMU President's Associates. He also enjoyed teaching adult literacy classes, attending the Dallas Symphony, Dallas Opera, and Dallas Summer Musicals and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane R. Carpenter; brother, Coleman R. Carpenter; and sister, Eileen Triplett Hinds.

Survivors include his son, Louis Carpenter, of Dallas; nephews: Max Triplett, of Arlington, Steve Yarbrough, of Sugarland, Brett Robertson, of Dallas, and Riley Carpenter, of Myersville, Maryland; nieces: Carol Logan, of Austin, Betsy Triplett-Hurt, of Odessa, Patricia Hatcher, of Pleasanton, Christy Mittag, of The Woodlands, Laura Robertson, of Richardson, and Jana Robertson, of Austin; sister-in-law, Virginia R Yarbrough, of Houston; and brother-in-law, James W. Robertson, of Dallas; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins.
