Howard married Harriet in Exeter, NH on Oct 7, 1903. His parents were Dr. William D. & Millicent (Niver) Swain.

On staff of two Boston Hospitals Many Years
Dr. Howard T. Swain, prominent Boston Obstetrician, died at his hime, 226 Commonwealth Ave. in his 69th year after an illness of several months.
His residence in Boston dated from 1893, when he came here following his graduation from Exeter Academy. After being graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1897 he served for six years at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Boston Lying-in Hospital, later becoming a member of the staff of both institutions.
He was born st Bath-on-the-Hudson, N.Y. in 1868, the son of William Dexter Swain and Millicent (Niver) Swain. He began his private practice in 1900. He was an assistant in obstetrics at Harvard Medical School in 1901 and became an instructor in the same field of practice in 1907.
He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American Medical Association Obstetrical Society of Boston, the University, Harvard and Union Boat Clubs.
He is survived by a wife, Harriet French Swain, a son, Howard T. Swain Jr., Denver, Colo, and two daughters, Mrs. C. Rodgers Burgin of Milton and Mrs. Henry K. U. Beecher, of Boston.

"Howard Swain was my maternal Great Grandfather. He was actually born in Bath-on-Hudson, Rensselaer County, NY as opposed to Bath, Steuben County, NY. Bath-on-Hudson was a little town just south of Rensselaer which has since been annexed by the City. It's just across the Hudson River from Albany."
