Mabel was the daughter of Francis Marion Stansberry and Martha Elizabeth Gray. She married Francis Valle Marshall on November 7, 1903 in Briceland, California; he died in 1928. She later married James Clark Beerbower on May 4, 1932 in Grants Pass, Oregon, and he died in 1957.

A native of Texas, she came to California in a covered wagon and her family settled in the Bull Creek area. Her mother died in a horse and buggy accident in 1895, and four years later her father died of a bowel infection. An orphan at 12, she lived with friends and worked odd jobs to get by.

She moved to Briceland at age 15 and went to work at a local hotel. Shortly thereafter she met Francis Marshall, and after their marriage they moved to Garberville and raised three children on their ranch.

After Francis' death and Mabel's marriage to James Beerbower, the family moved into the nearby Beerbower Ranch. She lived there until declining health forced her to move to a convalescent home.

She was a founding member of the Garberville Christian Science Church and a charter member of the Garberville Grange, No. 514.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two children, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Swensen and William Wesley Marshall; five brothers, Nathan, Robert, Francis, John, and Jess Stansberry; one sister, Mrs. Laura Smith; and three half-siblings, Thomas Stansberry, John Russell, and Mrs. Sarah Jolliffe.

Survivors included one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Starr Clarke; a foster daughter, Mrs. Donna Mae Kindred; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Velma Marshall; a sister-in-law, Stella Stansberry; 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great granddaughter.
