Mildred Viola Sanders Willis, 96, of Sopchoppy, FL went home to be with her Lord on February 12, 2018. She was born July 16, 1921 to Nathaniel Walker Sanders and Gladys Thelma Roberts Sanders in Wakulla County.

A lifelong resident of Wakulla County, she was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker and business owner. She had a giving nature to all she knew and dearly loved her family. She was dedicated to her home town of Sopchoppy, FL and served as its first City Clerk.

June 3, 1938, she married Griffin O’Neill Willis and they were blessed with five children: Mary Ellen Willis Whaley (TD), Carlton O’Neill Willis (deceased), Mildred Carolyn Willis Crum (Amos deceased), Sandra Louise Willis Thomas (Marvis) and Griffin Wayne Willis (Sherry).

She was a loving and supportive grandmother to her 12 grandchildren: Dennis Whaley, Brian Whaley (Susan), Ray Willis, Kaye Crum Hyde (Joe), Jeff Crum (Kim), Alan Crum (Chris), Greg Thomas (Kristi), Amy Carraway (Rick), Keaton Willis (Katie), Brittney Willis (Tim), Wendy Sweigert and Ericka Sweigert. In addition, she was a blessing to 30 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be graveside, Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at West Sopchoppy Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Willis’ honor to the Sopchoppy High School Restoration fund, P.O. Box 43, Sopchoppy, FL 32358.
