Eugene G. "Gene" Barnes, age 87, of Toledo, passed away April 30, 2015 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born on June 13, 1927 to John S. and Mary M. (Kingsley) Barnes in Toledo. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a painter for over 32 years and then worked security before retiring in January 2011. Gene was a member of the Northern Lights Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Zenobia Shrine. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Barnes; and brother, Howard Barnes. Gene is survived by his loving daughter, Jacqueline (Billy) Porter, Jr.; grandchildren, Edwin, Neil and Crystal; siblings, Helen Johnson and John "Scott" (Cathy) Barnes. Visitation and Services for Gene are pending. Everything will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the family.
