Edward J. Brandt, 91, of Mars, died Friday morning, May 1, 2015, at Wexford House Nursing Home. Born July 18, 1923, in Adams Township, he was a son of the late Charles C. and Loretta Osche Brandt Sr. Ed had worked at the Bulk Mail Center in Warrendale, at Castle Rubber in East Butler, at Woodings in Mars and for Mashuda Corporation in Cranberry. He was the original owner of the Mars Beer Distributor. He served as a radioman third class in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was a life member and past commander of the Mars VFW Post 7505, where he had held all offices. He was a life member of the Mars American Legion Post 787, the DAV Butler Chapter 64, the Mars Volunteer Fire Company, now Adams Area Fire District, and the Mars AARP. Ed was a member of St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are a daughter, Monica McMaster and her husband, James, of Callery; a son, Kevin E. Brandt, of Renfrew; his grandchildren, Chad McMaster and his fiancee, Staci, and Jessica McMaster; a great-grandson, Bryson McMaster; a sister, Myrtle Wolf, in Florida; a brother, Raymond Brandt, of Mars; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. McCombs Brandt, whom he married July 14, 1951, and who died April 7, 1995; by a brother, Charles Brandt; and three sisters, Catherine Harris, Mary Kiley and Florence Lambert. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME INC., 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Please dress in casual attire. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Kilian Church, corner of Clark and Cherry Street, with Father Charles Bober, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Butler County Memorial Park, Butler. Memorials may be made to St. Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Road, Cranberry Township.
