Funeral services for John Turner Stowers, Confederate veteran and member of Company B, Eleventh Tennessee Infantry, will beheld at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at the West Nashville Methodist church, of which he was a member for many years. The Rev. John R. Stewart and Dr. T.C. Ragsdale will conduct the services.
Mr. Stowers, who died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Boyles, 4311 Idaho avenue, with whom he had made his home for a number of years, was a native of Nashville, having been born here, March 2 1839. He enlisted May 10 1861, under Gen. George W. Gordon, and was retired from the Confederate service only after he was wounded in the battle of Atlanta, July 22 1864. He was a charter member of the Frank Cheatham Bivouac No. 1, and has always been active in its interest.
Mr. Stowers was married to Miss Mary Tilford, May 2 1867, she havign died about 15 years ago.He is survived by one brother, Thomas J. Stowers, and one sister, Mrs. Maggie L.Robinson, both of Baxter, Tenn.; eight children, Mrs. Minnie Gossling, Mrs. Nellie Giles, Mrs. Annie L. Chrisman, Mrs. Robert Boyles, Mrs. W. C. Orice, Mrs. C. A. Dudley and E. W. Stowers, all of Nashville, and J. W. Stowers of Bethesda.There are also 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Troop A. Confederate Calvary, and of the Frank Cheatham Bivouac, Active pallbearers are: R. L. Kennedy, Warren Sloan, Arthur Chrisman, J. C. Boyles, Greg Baker, C. F. Davis, G. C. Cockrill, and Walter Wright.
