Esther Mae Hewitt was born in Johnstown to George C. and Theresia (Hoffbauer) Fields. As a young girl, she moved with her family to a ranch in the mountains above Conifer. She graduated from the eighth grade and worked on the ranch and at Fields Trading Post, a store the family owned. She was married to Emery Avirgil Williams from 1936-46. They had three children, Roberta M. Williams, Viola Y. Williams and Douglas E. Williams.
In 1948, she married Lloyd L. Hewitt. He died Oct. 7, 1983, in Greeley.
Mrs. Hewitt worked hard all her life, lived on farms and worked away from home. She worked in retail, house and office cleaning and factories and had her own upholstery shop in Eaton.
After the death of Mr. Hewitt, she moved to Bonita Springs, Fla. She enjoyed travel and drove herself back to Colorado several times. She also enjoyed flying and visited her sisters often.
Mrs. Hewitt died Monday at Weston County Health Services, Upton.
Survivors: Her three children, Roberta Awmiller of Upton, Viola Creighton of Bonita Springs and Douglas Hewitt of Hermosa, S.D.; four sisters, Mrytle Beeler of Evergreen, Betty Long of Conifer, Sylvania Crawford of Delta and Ella Layne of Vermillion, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Two brothers, Walter and George Fields, and three sisters, Frances Piper, Mable Chilson and Edna Wilson.
Services: Cremation was her choice, and services will be at a later time in Colorado.--The Greeley Tribune, Feb. 10, 2007
