Steve Young October 21, 1949 March 27, 2015 Stephen Gray Young was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and raised in Reno, Nevada from the time he was 10 years old. He graduated from Sparks High School in 1967, and joined the Air National Guard shortly thereafter. Steve proudly graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1975 with his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. It was during college that Steve discovered his love for photography. Fortunately, Steve was able to turn his passion for photography into a successful career as the Audio Visual Coordinator at Washoe Medical Center for 29 years. During his time with Washoe Medical Center, Steve had many accomplishments, the most notable of which came in 2011, when his peers nominated him as the first ever overall Employee of the Year. While to some, Steve may be most well known for his contributions during his tenure with Washoe Medical Center, for many he is best known for his athletic accomplishments. Starting in 1984, Steve competed in over 170 races, including running, biking, cross-country skiing, marathons and triathlons. Steve's love for the outdoors, particularly the Galena Creek area, was only surpassed by his love for his children. Steve is survived by his sister, Sandra Thompson, his two children, Ashley Smith and Aaron Young, and his grandson, Braylen Smith. A memorial service will be held for Steve at the Galena Creek Fish Hatchery on Saturday May 9th at 3:00pm. Following the service, attendants will be encouraged to enjoy the Galena Creek area, and explore the hiking trails that Steve loved so dearly.
