Betty Carney Taussig
1920 - 2015

Betty Carney Taussig (age 94) died April 27, 2015 in Annapolis, Maryland. Mrs. Tausig was born in San Diego, California to a third generation Navy family. She was the daughter of the late Admiral Robert B. Carney and the late Grace Craycroft Carney. She graduated from the Gunston Hall in Washington, DC. Following her graduation she studied at the Corcoran Art Gallery and at the Critcher School of Commercial Art. During the early part of World War II she worked at the British Ministry of Supply Mission. She was a charter member of the Military Wives Association which lobbied successfully with other military organizations to win the Survivors Benefit Plan, and served as a speaker for the Military Survivors' Association which helped win passage of the Death Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for Navy widows. She was a past board member of the Society of Sponsors, and a past president of the Wardour Garden Club, and a past president of the Federated Republican Women's Clubs of Anne Arundel County. She was for twenty years an elected member of the Republican City Committee of Annapolis. She is the author of two books "Windfall of Inherited Treasures" and "A Warrior for Freedom". She was married to the late Joseph K. Taussig, Jr. who lost his leg from the attack on Pearl Harbor and was an assistant Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy during the Reagan and Bush Administrations. She is survived by one son, Joseph K. Taussig III, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Susan Taussig Graves died in 1993. Funeral services will be held at the St. Andrews Chapel in the USNA, Annapolis, Maryland on Wednesday May 6, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the USNA Cemetery.
