Reed, III, age 66, of Shreveport will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Scotty Gibson. Courtney A. Reed, III passed away of natural causes at his Shreveport residence on Monday, April 27, 2015. Mike was born on July 12, 1948 to Mike and Suzanne Anderson Reed, Courtney attended Ruston public schools. Where he made the varsity football team as a freshman at Ruston High school. He became the third member of his name to interrupt his schooling to volunteer for wartime military service. His grandfather served in WWI. His father served in WWII. Courtney served as a combat infantryman with the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War in 1966-67. Courtney served in “I Corps” near the demilitarized zone and was twice awarded the Purple Heart. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-68. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Courtney and Christine Heard Reed, and Marion Anderson Putnam; parents: Mike and Sue Reed; his aunts: Martha R. Wojecki and Victoria R. Mabry; and uncle: Chester Wojecki, Sr. Courtney was the father of two grown daughters, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Much of his working life was spent as a logging contractor. He is a fourth generation Reed to work in the lumbering and sawmilling business. Fishing was a lifelong passion. His favorite spot to fish was a kingfisher pond built near Choudrant by his grandparents. Courtney is survived by two daughters: Amanda Reed of Monroe, and Katie Reed Bagwell and husband Casey of Choudrant; four grandchildren: Zachary Murphy, Cade Smith, Alayna Murphy and Myra Rice; and two great grandchildren: Dash Murphy and Aspen Murphy; two sisters: Mrs. Jennifer Terzia of Ruston, and Mrs. Marcia Coley of Suwanee, Georgia; and brother: Russell Reed of Destrehan, Louisiana; brothers-in-law: David Coley, and Buddy Terzia; and sister-in-law: JoAnn Reed. Appreciation is expressed to Overton Brooks Medical Center, to Mr. Tommy Adkins, attorney, Ruston, Louisiana and to Scotty Gibson of Shreveport Louisiana. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests a gift to the Methodist Children’s Home of Ruston, the Wounded Warrior Project or the A.S.P.C.A. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
