Born in Dunboyne Plantation, Bayou Goula, Iberville Parish, Louisiana to Edward George Washington Butler and Frances Parke (Lewis) Butler. Graduated University of Virginia in 1858. In 1860 was 2nd LT in the 11th Louisiana Regiment. Later listed as a Major under General Braxton Bragg. married February 1885 to Susan Ann (Martin (1840-1900) after being married March 11, 1868 to Mary Susan (Gay). From this union was born at least Frances Parke Butler Edward Butler, Lavenia Butler and Nannie Butler..He is listed as being a Sugar Merchant.
