Hazel M. McDaniel, 85, of Lafayette, died at 3:35 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at St. Elizabeth East.

She was born July 8, 1929, in Benton County to the late Edward H. & Blanch Sturgeon-Hands.

She graduated from Montmorenci High School Benton County.

She married Glenn Lemming and they later divorced. She then married Lee McDaniel and he passed away.

Hazel retired as Dining Room Food Manager from the American Legion Post #11 in 1999. She was a Lifetime member of the Ladies Post #11 Auxiliary. She was the Auxiliary liaison for the Indiana Veterans' Home. She was the Poppy chairman for over 50 years and a past president of Ladies Auxiliary Post #11. Hazel was recognized for being an outstanding volunteer for her service to the American Legion and the Auxiliary. She was a proud member of Memorial Day Association, 40&8, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and D.A.V. She was a true patriot. Her greatest treasure was her family.

Surviving: son, Michael (Debbie) Lemming, daughters, Glenise Ewalt (Warren), Kathy Lodde (Bill), Joni McDaniel (Todd Archer), grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Nan," Stephanie Jones (Rob), Erin Munn (Jon), Jennifer Ewalt (Rich Johnson), Russell Ewalt, Craig Ewalt, Wiley Lodde, Alex Lodde, Kayla Bowsher (Rusty Burke), Abby Riley, Cassidy Cleinmark (Annette), Tami Bonoa (Zach), Brandon Mackey (Katie), Brett Mackey, great-grandchildren, Brock Jones, Clayton Jones, Madison Jones, Conor Munn, Boone Munn, Ryder Munn, Peyton Johnson, Kaidence Burke, Piper Burke, Gage Mackey, Jase Mackey, Leland Mackey, and Cassidy Mackey. Also surviving Debbie McDaniel-Bour, Janice Marks, Lee McDaniel Jr. and several nieces and nephew.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie McDaniel, and five sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel Friday, May 1, from 12 to 3 p.m. followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. Chaplain David Hess officiating. Celebrate Hazel's patriotism by wearing red, white and blue.

Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery, Stockwell.
