Everett Kim Thompson, 71, passed away peacefully at a Boise hospital following a long illness on April 28, 2015. His family was by his side.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 790 South Haskett St., in Mountain Home, with a viewing from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m., and dedication of the grave will be held at 2 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
Everett was born Feb. 8, 1944 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, to Everett Roland Thompson and Orisa Green. He grew up in Calgary, Alberta. He developed a love for music as a young boy, showing a talent for the violin and performed with the Calgary Junior Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 16.
He met the love of his life, Joyce Ann Peterson, in Butte, Montana. They were married August 4, 1967 in Butte and sealed for eternity the following day in the Idaho Falls Temple. The early years of their marriage were spent in Calgary, Alberta.
In 1972, he joined the United States Army. After a training accident, he was medically retired.
In May of 1975, he achieved his dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. Following his military service, he attended BYU in Provo, Utah, and received a degree in Elementary Education. He taught for two years before going to work for the Civil Service at Hill AFB in Utah. He moved to Norton AFB in California in 1986, and finally Mountain Home AFB in 1990. He retired in July 2003.
After his retirement, he enjoyed substitute teaching in Mountain Home and was loved by many.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 47 years; his brother, Leonard Andrew Thompson, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; daughter, Jennifer Cox (Robert) of Mountain Home; son, Jeffery Thompson (Patty), of Nampa; and eight grandchildren.
Per his wishes, he will be buried in the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors.
