CROGHAN, N.Y. — Lawrence H. "Larry" Turck, 85, of Shady Avenue, died Saturday evening, March 7, at Country Manor Nursing Home, Carthage.

He was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Croghan, the son of the late Ambrose “Jake” and Leona “Pat” Compeau Turck.

He was predeceased by his older brother Daniel A. Turck.

He is survived by his nieces Lynn A. Turck, Cathy M. Turck, and Susan J. Turck-Black and by his nephews Daniel J. Turck, Brian P. Turck, Neil L. Turck, Michael A. Turck, and Jeffrey A. Turck along with several great nieces and nephews.

Larry was a graduate of Father Leo Memorial School, an US Army veteran, and worked as a lineman with the I.B.E.W. until his retirement.

Larry was a lifelong resident of Croghan and an avid outdoorsman. Over the years he shared his love and knowledge of the great outdoors with his nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Beaver River American Legion where he spent many afternoons in the company of his friends.

Larry lived life his own way; he was as well known for his sense of humor as he was for his stubbornness.

He supported many charitable organizations and in his earlier years volunteered often in the kitchen at the Legion for events that were held there. Recently Larry received a certificate of appreciation for his 60 years of service to the Legion.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at St. Stephen’s Church, Main St., Croghan. Friends and family may pay their respects one hour prior to mass in the back of St. Stephen’s Church. Burial will be in St Stephen’s Cemetery in the Spring.

Arrangements are being handled by the Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Tim Kloster for the many things he did for Larry and the family over the years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Larry’s name to the American Diabetes Association, or to The Wounded Warrior Project.
