Beauty Queen, Actress. She is remembered as Miss Venezuela of 2004. Born Mónica Spear Mootz to a German immigrant family, she was raised originally in Venezuela, often traveling because of her father's job as an oil engineer and along the way becoming fluent in English, Spanish, and French; in 2000, she relocated with her parents to Orlando, Florida and was to earn a degree in theater from Central Florida University. Returning home to compete for the crown as Miss Venezuela, she won, then in 2005 was 4th runner-up in the Miss Universe Pageant. After modeling for a time, she launched a career in television soaps in 2006, her credits including starring roles in Venevisión's "Mi Prima Ciela" ("My Cousin Ciela") as well as Telemundo's "La Mujer Perfecta" ("The Perfect Woman") and "Pasion Prohibida" ("Forbidden Love"). A naturalized American citizen, she resided in Miami while continuing her small screen work and was murdered along with her ex-husband in an apparent botched robbery during a vacation visit to her homeland.
