He served in the United States Army during World War II and again in the Korean War, and the Vietnam War; reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II.

During his time in the Army, Joseph was involved in the island assault on Corregidor, being one of the first groups of paratroopers to be deployed by the Army.

He married Naiyana Cunta Rameechuangchote in Thailand.

Mr. Neal is survived by his son, Alex Neal; his daughters, Andrea Neal and Laurie Neal; his brothers, James Neal and Ralph Neal.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years of marriage, Naiyana Cunta (Rameechuangchote) Neal.
