Arthur J. Baker III, husband of Eileen "Lee" (Mahoney). Father of Arthur IV and Mark Baker. Son of Arthur, Jr., and Julia (Maher) Baker. Brother of Theresa Baker, Steven (Deborah) Baker, Tim (Joan) Baker, Patrick (Alice) Baker of the Chicago Fire Dept., Julia Baker, Robert Baker, and James Baker. Grandson of Dorothy and the late Arthur Baker, Sr. Son-in-law of Daniel and Eileen Mahoney. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Good and loyal friend to many.

A 1974 alumni of Mount Carmel High School and a member of the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers Local 7.

Funeral Monday 8:45 a.m., from the McInerney Funeral Home, 46 Place Wallace Street, to St. Gabriel Church, mass at 9:30 a.m. Father Dave Dillon OC celebrant. Visitation Saturday 4 to 10 p.m. and Sunday 2-10 p.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.

Arthur was the maintenance man and janitor at Moses Montefiore Public School. He was shot outside the school by a spree killer but managed to get back inside the school’s southeast entrance, shut the door, and alert the principal. He was one of four victims who died. A police officer killed the gunman before any children were harmed.
